That's odd I guess. Lol our presidential voting is skewed anyway.
Individual votes get forwarded to the electoral college, who then actually vote for the President based on their regions votes.

We vote for our local MP, whichever party gets the most MPs forms the government and the leader of that party becomes Prime Minister. And we have 5 different federal parties, but you can only vote for a party if someone local chooses to run for MP sponsored by that party in your riding. It's rare though not to have a full choice though. I had 4 out of 5 parties running in my riding this year.

Wow Lol we get two choices. And then the libertarians... Who are sadly usually the best choice but never get enough funding to get their names out there so aren't known. And the green party. Who everyone thinks are even bigger hippies than the democrats. So we really get told early on you either vote rep or dem or you're wasting your vote. .

I know, we hear more about your elections than we do our own lmao, to the point where every election there's Canadians who can't understand how our method is different than yours, it drives me batty.
We really only have 3 main parties, but the other two always get a few seats. The trouble comes when one party gets more seats than all the other put together, because that means unless there's division among the party they can't be outvoted. The beauty of our system is supposed to be the checks and balances from having to get so many different people from different regions and parties to agree with you. But majority governments don't need that and they scare me. The last 4 years we had a conservative majority and he signed away nearly all our environmental protections and civil rights and joined a war that had nothing to do with us and there wasn't a damn thing anyone could do about it.

That's what we've been calling it lol Harper has been Americanizing us, and no disrespect intended, no one up here wants to be you guys. But Harper has cronies with big money and he just handed our country over to whomever would pay for it, and we ended up with shittier healthcare, huge pollution issues, a loss in global standing, muzzled fucking scientists (he motherfucking destroyed public scientific libraries and made it illegal for publicly funded scientists to share their findings with the public, ask me how I feel about that one haha) privatized utilities, a war on public servants and public services, higher taxes even though he ran on the 'we lower taxes platform, he's a total liar). His knickname was Bush-light......

Oh and anti abortion, anti gay, anti pot, anti Muslim rhetoric is his bread and butter. To my utter shame he convinced some people that all Muslims are evil. The rest are too ingrained in the Canadian psyche for him to be able to change, but Muslim immigration he's manged to make everyone scared of.
