We just had the longest election campaign ever in the history of the country. 72 agonizing fucking days of non stop political propaganda. The party I wanted didn't win, but the party I hated got out, so that was half a win. Unfortunately we voted out a majority government for another majority government, so we're still stuck with unilateral decisions being made without enough checks and balances.
I hate election times, it really brings out the worst in people. And this time was even worse, the Conservatives that got voted out introduced piles of ridiculously racist legislation and ran on a platform of fear and divisiveness (us vs them) so many people seem to have bought into the fear and hatred and they all came out during the election, they got overwhelmingly out voted at least, but it sure made me feel uncanadian to see all that.

Our season has been going on for a year now and elections aren't until next year.

Our ex prime minister had to illegally (in my opinion) rewrite the election laws in order to have the campaign last that long. It used to be no longer than 6 weeks allowed.

Wow. Ours basically do whatever the hell they want. The debates started a few weeks back but basically once the first asshole publicly announces they are running its game on...be it right after the election or just a year before.
Reasons I don't watch the news anymore Lol

Ours has a lot to do with funding. The incumbent party gets to use a portion of public funds toward the campaign, which is why I believe it should be illegal for him to rewrite the laws so that he got an additional 30 days of funding, while the other four parties were caught by surprise with only the standard 6 weeks of funds ready for the campaign, he was trying to starve them out. But he was a skeevy asshole that I believe did many illegal things in his time in office that I would like to see him account for in a court of law.

The network news stations here didn't paint him in a flattering light Lol and it's odd for them to take a break from our own asshole politicians to worry about another country.

Haha haha Kyla. As a registered voter I can literally write in my vote. Whoever I want. Its a waste. It will get thrown away.
But it is my absolute right to vote for whoever I please. Sadly a green puppet with a porcine fetish is better qualified than most of our current candidates.

I can void my ballot in protest if I so choose, but I've never heard of someone writing in a different name. Just crossing a line through all the circles. It's different though because like I said they're all local names. So it's not like my choices were Stephan Harper and Justin Trudeau and I'd write Kermit, it would be Glen Wright and Alex Sandor, Kermit becomes less funny then
