Beginning the week of October 11th, we are reading the first book in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series: A Game of Thrones. Each week, we will all read a section of the book and then begin discussion on that section, continuing until the start of the next week. This is an 8-week schedule, designed to cover enough of the story to keep discussions interesting, but not so much that it becomes overwhelming. The page numbers listed as stopping points in the schedule may not align perfectly with the copy you're reading, so use approximates and chapter names as cues. Week 1: Prologue - Tyrion (pg. 92) Week 2: Jon - Eddard (pg. 202 Week 3: Tyrion - Sansa (pg. 304) Week 4: Eddard - Daenerys (pg. 395) Week 5: Bran - Daenerys (pg. 500) Week 6: Eddard - Catelyn (pg. 606) Week 7: Tyrion - Catelyn (pg. 701) Week 8: Daenerys - end If you read ahead, that's your call, but please no spoilers.

So does that mean we start reading Oct 11 or start discussing?

Reading. Noodz said that she needs the rest of this week to finish her stuff, so I thought we'd hold off until she's settled. I also have a very busy week this week, so I could use a little more time. Next week, though, I'm on vacation! (again)

Damn, Ronin - you are awesome with the whole schedule/breakdown. With C spraining his ankle, and me moving my class to 1st weekend in November, it throws a hitch in things. I'm just going to start next week, and keep up as much as possible (in between studying). I'm so excited! YAY

You should be okay. We're only doing 100 pages every week, so even if you fall s little behind, you could catch up in no time.

Do we talk about it?! I don't know how this works. I like that we get to observe details that could have easily been overlooked the first time around. Catelyn is very perceptive in sensing the dead mama dire wolf with the stag's antler is a bad omen. Also, I'm only 3 years younger than Ned

I'm making this up as I go along too, so let's just do what makes us happy until we figure out what works. Yeah, Sean Bean=definitely not 35. He looked more like late 40s, early 50s. It's the only thing that's really jumped out at me so far. Then again, that's about as far as I've gotten.

Okay, so the first part of this book was very on par with the show. The whole age thing kept getting to me. Not only are the parents a lot younger than represented on the show, but also the older boys. I thought about it though, and about all of the things that they had to endure (just so far as I've seen) and I'm not sure that I could have stomached that for 14/15 year old boys. I think the show's producers made a smart move to age those boys a bit.

I was glad they aged up the girls too.

I need to to the library tomorrow and see if they are available. But I'm down to reread. Love this series
