I don't always wear makeup out. Most of the time, I just do basic eye makeup and go. I resent the fact that I've been chastised several times over the course of my career (and even before my current job) for not wearing it.
"You need to look like you put some effort into your appearance." Whuuuuuu.... I did. I put even more effort into being awesome at my job, but we don't have war paint for that now do we? "Makeup makes you look polished." Yup, until it starts running down my face, because then I just look like the fucking Joker.
I'm not the kind of chick who checks her hair and face at all during the day. However I leave the house, that's how I assume I still look all day long, because I have more important shit to worry about. (I actually should do a couple of check-ins though, because when I get home I usually look like I lost a fight and then cried about it.)
The reason most people give me for their "concern" (because I do ask) is that they're afraid that clients won't take me as seriously without it. That's crap. In my personal life, I'd rather be sitting across a desk from someone who has no makeup on, than someone who looks like they let a toddler draw in their eyebrows.
I don't get it.
Brought to you by a drowsy chick who's mad she had to work today.

That's horseshit. If you're clean, and your hair is brushed neatly and your clothes suit your surroundings then you have done all you need to be presentable in public. It's never occurred to me to notice of my banker wears makeup, or my lawyer or my grocer. I care that you're polite and helpful.

Yeah, for real. I have been brave lately and just going without it. My face feels like it can breathe! But sometimes I still wear it.

I've been going without it lately too and it's so freeing! I may throw on some mascara and lip gloss but that's it and I love it. I don't have to worry about not touching my face all day and if I get ready a lot quicker! It's fantastic! I do like a tinted moisturizer when I do choose to look made up.

My getting all done up consists of putting on mascara and lip gloss. 90% of the time I wear nothing at all. On a really really big night out I also wear eyeshadow and a hint of eyeliner just in the corners of my eyes. I would be soo fucking pissed if someone had the nerve to tell me that it was unacceptable to wear my own face out in public.

It's infuriating, Ky. At my current job, in employee orientation, I was told that it was a part of dress code. I just stared at the HR lady for a minute, and told her that this was not communicated to me before the job offer was extended and that I showed up to the interview without makeup and was still offered the position. She backpedaled a bit, but made it clear that it was expected. When I checked the written policy, makeup wasn't mentioned, so I just ignored her. I didn't even start wearing makeup at all until I was about 26. I hired a Mary Kay consultant and she suckered me into coming to one of her parties. It was nice having someone to show me how to apply it, then she also talked to me about colors that complimented my features and whatever. That was always my big anxiety, that I wouldn't know what to buy or how to put it on even if I did wear it. I did full-blown makeup for a little while, but that just took too much time in my morning (not to mention the cost ) so I didn't keep up with it. Now I just do a little shadow, liner and mascara in the morning. Four minutes. Tops. I see professional women all the time who wear minimal or no makeup and, honestly, I'm glad. As I'm growing older, I'm starting to get more annoyed at the expectations thrown at women. I like that my kids interact with smart, beautiful, professional women who don't also feel like they have to look like Barbie dolls. Here's to "Natural you is the new normal."

I will motherfucking drink to that I have nice skin and pretty eyes. My smile is weirdly shaped, but no amount of lipstick would fix that for me, I have crowsfeet, but they don't bug me. I like my face. I have several weird parts on my body, I like it too. I conflate requiring make-up to fix my face flaws with forcing me to wear a corset to fix my body flaws. People have faces and bodies I don't see why we all want to try and hide that fact.

LMFAO @ that pic Ronin, HAHAHAHAHA!
I don't wear it at home, but if I leave the house, I do wear eyeliner & mascara pretty much all of the time I feel naked without it. Super shallow, I know. But I don't glop on foundation or blush or go crazy with eyeshadow, so that counts for something....right?

This is me most days. I tried to do a smokey eye once and this is seriously what I felt it looked like. Nope, not for me! And I'm with ky, I like my face, as well as the imperfectness of my body. However, I will reveal that I've been shaving my face...

Yeah, I probably should have been doing my lip a long time ago, it's super blonde so I probably notice it more than anyone else but as I've gotten older there's so much of it! I waxed it once and that hurt like a sumbitch. Then I saw this youtube video from this cocky little bitch talking about how no man wants to see hair on a womans face, even peach fuzz, and she had this cool tool so I bought some. It's pretty cool actually.
