You know the ones who end up paying $5 for $150 worth of groceries? I'm finding that some people stockpile this stuff and then turn around and sell it online. There's a lady that sells it on a local yard sale site.
I dunno exactly how it all works but it kinda seems wrong, doesn't it? I don't have the patience for regular couponing let alone this type of thing. It doesn't make sense that you can go get a bunch of free stuff because you used coupons and then turn around and sell it. Maybe I'm just being an asshole.

It doesn't make sense that you can go get a bunch of free stuff because you used coupons and then turn around and sell it. Maybe I'm just being an asshole. Not only is it wrong it's completely illegal in a few places. I used to coupon heavily and here is what I've learned about the "extremers" The majority of them are OCD hoarders who need an outlet that's seen as "socially acceptable." I'm not saying that to be bitchy or rude. I used to go to big group meetings where we'd clip our coupons and share tips. Most of the women and men are ruthlessly organized, down to spread sheets that calculate their "savings." Which actually AREN'T savings when you're still spending $150 on shit you don't need. Most if them had garages and outbuildings or.attics FULL TO THE BRIM of organized items they had no use for. They would make jokes about those that turned around and sold them online as being poachers, and the others it seemed almost like doomsday prep. Truthfully the majority of the people I encountered had no legitimate need for the stockpile they had accumulated. I quit going when I made the *gasp* recommendations that we donate our excesses to charity or the homeless (since most of the excess are name brand toiletries.)...and was summarily shut down. Not all of them let it get out of hand I know but frankly the ones who turn around and sell it are sadly the healthy ones IMO. It's wrong but at least they arent hoarding lol

Aside from the hoarding issue, couponing is way too time consuming. Using my current rate of pay as a benchmark, the time that I would spend bargain and coupon hunting is worth more to me than the savings. I use my grocery store's loyalty card, but otherwise don't bother with coupons. I'm not spending valuable time I don't have to save pennies on items I don't need.

I've never understood how all that extreme couponing even works. Still, I don't see it as unethical or unfair. To me it's no different than a company selling overstock items. Capitalism on a micro level. I buy beads on clearance or wholesale, then I sell them on ebay. So it doesn't seem that different to me.
I don't understand why it would be illegal. I mean, you own it. If it's your stuff, you should be able to sell it.

Very interesting points, didn't think about it that way, so I'll take my asshole award, lol! I'm sure that she's actually helping people out who need those things she's selling for cheap, so that's good. I guess I just wonde how much this extreme couponing impacts the regular pricing of goods.

That just bugs me, for some reason. I wanna know where and why it's illegal. So I can fire up my righteous indignation over something that doesn't effect me at all, and most people don't give two shits about. I literally have to shame myself publicly to demonstrate to myself how ridiculous I'm being sometimes. I don't wanna be...

I don't have specifics for you sadly. Just hearsay from some ladies I know who said they had a friend who got dinged for it at a flea market type setting? And tbh that may have been a permit issue.
This is not the week for me and rational thought. Pretty sure my family is ready to trade me in.

Think of it this way, Chels. You have 5 healthy children, a house, the internet, running water, electricity, food, access to alcohol, clothing, Beeps, and friends who love you.
You are in need of a nice big automobile to haul around your beautiful children and your heavy, pricey recreational stuff. You have the financial means to get said automobile.
Your only real problems are square footage and the unfortunate reality that you live in Texas. Either of those can be, or are, temporary.
Breathe. Drink. Breathe. Repeat as necessary.

After reading y'alls thoughts on this I've changed my tune. . She's not price gouging at all. She seeks groups of items from $5 to $15. Toilet paper, detergent, shampoo, body wash, etc. I'm sure it's very helpful to those in need.
