It looks like the powers that be are assigning differing degrees of caution to this. I'm really on the fence. Panic is bad, but preparedness is crucial. The stakes are pretty high. I'm not sure how to interpret the numbers. Brazil has a big population - perspective is important.
I'm not usually reactionary whem it comes to things like this. For some reason, though, I find this rather terrifying. Not for me personally (My uterus is retired), but for pregnant women? I would feel really vulnerable, I think. How do you make sure you don't get bitten by a mosquito for 40 weeks?
I guess I'm just curious about what you guys think. I've talked to quite a few people who have never heard of this. Others have, but see it as a third world issue. I think it's coming, and the media will spin it into a pandemic, even if it's not warrented. Which is why I'm trying to learn about it now, while there's still some objectivity.

I heard about it and considered bringing it up to my OB because even though mosquitoes are a year round problem here I'm not even certain they can test me for it. I also haven't traveled but....ya know. The few cases of women who have contracted it and babies were born with issues had all traveled to countries it's an issue in their pregnancies. I'm not SURE how concerned I'm supposed to be?

Oh, shit, girl. I did NOT mean to imply that you should be scared! That was stupid of me. I wouldn't be concerned at all, if I were you, Chelsea. I wouldn't worry for any U.S. pregnancies at this point (unless maybe you spent a few weeks in Brazil when you were pg.).
I just look at countries advising their citizens NOT to get pregnant right now, and it gives me pause. Are they overreacting? How much do they know? Like I said, it's moving north, and my prediction is that the closer it gets, the less likely it becomes to get unhyped, objective news coverage. I'm beginning to learn the value of multiple people reading the same story and sharing what they took from it. They see and evaluate differently, and I learn more that way. That's all I was asking for.
Put down your Skin So Soft and return to regularly scheduled programming. (It goes without saying, but they would have noted it on U/S already if Rocky had a problem - Ugh.). I'm glad I know you well enough to know you're rolling your eyes right now thinking, "Bitch, PLEASE! I'm a professional.".

Lol oh no. I saw a news story and it gave me pause a few days ago but logistically Tue chances of me or the baby being effected seem slim to none.
I'm with you on that "don't get pregnant right now thing".... if it isn't typical government alarmist behavior for these countries then it implies something more severe than they are letting on.
