My ice maker in the freezer makes too much ice, I can never use it all and if I leave it it'll fall out the backside into some abyss I can't see or access unless I pull the whole fridge out from the wall, so I regularly pull the bin out and dump it in the sink to melt away. WHY HAVE I BEEN DOING THIS?? I pay good money for a filter for the water that makes that ice and as well for PUR filters for the faucet. So last night I grabbed a pretty pitcher, filled it with the ice and left it sitting on the counter by the Keurig--that's right kids, now I can just refill my Keurig from that pitcher because it's filtered water!
Maybe not so brilliant, but really glad I figured it out. It's the little things, right?

That's a great use for extra ice! I also bag some up from time to time for when I need to use my ice chest.

Wait, you can't just turn the ice maker off?

The ONLY reason I know how this works is that we bought the fridge new, and read the manual. If I had moved in with this refrigerator already here...never would have figured it out. Metal bar moves up and down. Metal bar up, Ice OFF. Metal bar down, ice ON. Attachments:

It would make me nutty if I couldn't turn it off. But yeah, kissy, you definitely earn kudos for an outside the box AND green solution!

It's not that kind and the part that dispenses the ice isn't all that easy to access--so there's a probably a way to turn it off it's just not as simple as lifting the bar (I've had an ice maker like that). *I'm going to leave the above up there and just tell y'all that I went ahead and looked in the FRIDGE and sure enough there's a nifty little button that turns off the ice. It never occurred to me to check. I'm still pretty happy about using it for my keurig.

Still, it's awfully nice to know. Especially if you go out of town for a stretch!
