Watched the Matrix last night in HD. Then a basketball game in HD. Then Independence Day. Even in HD, still can't find myself. I was there. I swear I was there.
Still. Wow. A TV I can actually see the screen of. Nice!

The Matrix is our go to test movie for all new media equipment. We skip to the elevator scene. It's the perfect scene for testing all new A/V equipment.

Only Keanu Reeves movie I can stand. He's just....awful. But that is one of those movies that I can't turn off somehow. Even when I'm scrolling through edited basic cable channels. Not sure why.

We were just discussing that at work the other day. One of my coworkers feels the exact same way about Keanu. I'm like that about Tom Cruise. I've always hated that guy, he's the worst. The only thing I liked him in was his small part in Tropic Thunder. He was actually funny. The overlords must have tweaked his humor chip. Otherwise, he's the same cardboard dude in every fucking movie. I fucking hate him.

I think that, regardless of his acting, he's kind of a ridiculous dickhole all around. I'm all for religious freedom, but that Scientology shit is a special brand of spectacular, mind-boggling stupid.

Lol Mr. Hangers loves Keanu and hates Tom Cruise. Passionately. "That would be great. Too bad we don't get to watch it because it has to automatically suck since he's in it" kind of mentality.

Colin and I are just discussing how we should share the matrix with our kids. I think they would kids it, he thinks it's too violent

My son has apparently never seen it (we own them all so I don't see how) but we are the strange parents who don't censor based on violence and language unless it's... like a tarrantino movie . I'm with you. I think that they would dig it. Its a super neat action movie.

I had G watch with me for a while, but it wasn't for him. He's weird about "inappropriate" things, though. He's self-policing. Tonight I started to explain to him that I used to make a sound like opening a can when I was about to lose it with Amara and Eli. It was the sound of me opening a can of whoop-ass, and when they heard it, they knew. I said I made the sound because it had a name that some people found inappropriate. "Is it bad? Like 'A' word bad?", he asks. "Yep, that's the word". "I don't wanna hear it."
We've never been hugely censoring. When the big kids hit 16 or so, I basically told them that I thought they were old enough to know the bounds of appropriate time, place, and people where language was concerned, so they didn't need to censor themselves around me. Words are words to me. All that matters is that they know that not everyone feels that way, and to respect that.
G actually was over at a friends house once, and the dad cursed. Gram said, "Sir! That is hugely inappropriate! I'm 8!" Thankfully, the Dad thought it was the funniest thing ever. He could barely tell us, he was laughing so hard. I imagine not all people would appreciate that reprimand.

Mr. h and I have potty mouths but the kids have been educated that like anything there is a Time and place and rules governing propriety. They've all experimented a bit haha haha to be expected. I laid down the rules. So far so good since. All TV is make believe and I don't let them watch the news typically. Hell I only watch it for the weather report. Sexual stuffs on TV we censor with the typical "cover your eyes" .. And depending WHAT it is of its inappropriate or .... graphic enough we make a judgement call about if even B is allowed to watch it. (We are both wildly uncomfortable watching movies with sex scenes in them with our teenage son..it gives us the creeps. We know its weird.. we don't care. Just ...can't do.it..too.gross.)

Funny, we sit and watch the local & national news together every night. I used to object, but now I feel like it's life, and sometimes life really sucks and is ugly. I think G actually learns things, but sometimes I feel like he's being exposed to too many graphic stories too young. Then again, better to watch with us where it's safe, ask questions, and get the straight dope than to send him off to get educated by a peer group at school who know just enough to almost always get it wrong.

I only read the news, never watch it, but we pretty much only censor violence. My thinking is; curse words, sex, drinking, most inappropriate shit actually, are all things my kids are going to come in contact with in regular everyday life, hell, probably from me and Colin hahaha. But I'm hoping they can go through their whole life without ever seeing real graphic violence and if they do, I want it to shock them. So, I don't mind normalizing all sorts of wildly non childish yet funny stuff (my kids watch the Simpson's all the time by themselves and Archer or Rick and Morty when we do) but we agonize over all violent content, they have zero shooting games, we let them watch all tv with us, they sit through the sex scenes and I kick them out when the violence starts.

The news thing happened on ...accident almost. I just find myself waiting on the weather and end up muting the TV or changing it outright. Just depressing. Drinking and swearing and all that. Eh. Like I said time and place. Can't watch sex scenes with the kid currently going through puberty. Simply disgusting to me. But like I said a lot of that depends on how graphic it is. Some mild kissing and heavy petting and clothes coming of? Whatever. They typically cut off before they show anything good Lol but.... it gets pornographic. Nah.

Game of thrones is the only thing I can think of that has heavy sex scenes that we've watched, and the kids got banned from that due to violence so I never really had to think about how I felt with them seeing the sex haha.

We don't sensor anything but graphic violence. Sex and nudity are natural and we don't like the idea of the kids thinking they're a big deal.
Hence WeeMan's bouts of 'streaking the quad' at school. If the faculty's concerned, they aren't saying anything.
Graphic violence upsets my girl too much though. She has zero tolerance for it, so we make sure she knows to stay away if we're watching something that will upset her.
My daughter's favorite move right now: Dodgeball. My son's: Monty Python & The Holy Grail. Both of the kids love a webcomic that is not made for their age group, but not completely inappropriate. We let them watch it all.
As for cursing, we don't try to curb our language, but the kids are told that those are "mommy & daddy words" and they can't use them until they pay taxes.
