Do you guys see this shit in real life?
I am so glad to live in a small town where people are forced to be decent to each haha.
I know others have different experiences, but in my experience; I have lived in Vancouver, a city of several million people, Calgary and Edmonton, cities of about a million each, Saskatoon, a city of about 200,000 people, and now Rosthern a town of about 1500 people.
In my experience, cities all have the same etiquette, mind your own business. Feel free to be butthurt over everything, just don't talk to me in real life.
My small town is so different. This is a very very religious small town. And we at not. I've never, not once, felt ostracized because of that. There are many different opinions on things like not celebrating Halloween (3 of our 13 churches) not letting girls wear pants (1 church) Christmas being all about Christ (seemingly every Christian I know)
But no one is an asshole about it. People who don't celebrate Halloween, don't try to stop it for others. People who believe it's immoral for girls to wear pants, don't stop their kids from being friends with my kids, and people who believe that Christmas is holy don't refuse to celebrate with my secular family.
My real life is so far away from the Internet world that I can't reconcile the two. I mean there's issues, gossipy bitches, cliques, and no one likes poor people no matter what church they go to, but people are so normal and reasonable and common sensical here I often wonder how much Internet drama is seen in real life and how much is simply a product of the Internet, completely ignorable

Not so in-your-face for the most part, but I do get the "Merry Christmas" militants. Too much. It makes me hate talking to anyone at Christmas time. And just the stupidest comments too, like, "I know they (my employer) won't let you say it back, but Merry Christmas."
Why would I not be able to say that? You're stupid.
Oh, and heaven forbid I throw out a Happy Holidays to anyone. OMFG. You can start a riot with that shit. I'm sooooooo sorry that I want you to enjoy all of your upcoming holiday festivities / the holiday season in general. I am such a bad person. Yes, that is just a 'politically correct' statement that only a commie would use.
Roll. My. Fucking. Eyes. Right. Outta. My. Head.

I don't get the Starbucks thing. I swear it has to be made up because I live in a town full of the religious militant and not one person has said shit in complaint about the cup thing other than, like me, to puzzle as to why it was a thing and post some seriously hilarious memes. (That Indiana Jones one is fucking .... gold. Home dude/ dudette won the internet all day with that)
We do get a lot of the Merry Christmas Nazis around here. I reply with whatever seems applicable because I have home training and fucking sense. But some people.... it's virulent to the point of disgusting. I won't even participate in "my" churhes live nativity anymore because of the pressure they put on the guests who attend. Like... they are here to see a show, pet the fucking camel you rented, coo over whichever wee bebe you volunteered for pneumonia this year by making them be out in cold night air for 30 minute intervals to play baby Jesus, and get some free hot chocolate.
Leave em be. Damn

I'm a pinko commie leftist, and even I think it's ridiculous. It's like the country collectively lost both their tolerance and sense of humor.
The "War on Christmas" thing is awful. As if an all-inclusive greeting like, "Happy Holidays" somehow diminishes "Merry Christmas". Apparently, after ignoring and marginalizing every other religion's traditions for 200 years, they suddenly perceive any other greeting as a deeply offensive attempt to marginalize theirs. Even though no one is being marginalized, and saying, "Seasons Greetings" in no way detracts from Christianity.
It's absurd.

I remember being ostracized last year for pointing out to an irate church member that it was really no big deal that the white house was referring to it's tree as a holiday tree.
"They are appropriating our God and Christian traditions and cheapening it!"
My response:
" You mean like we did the yule tree and the celebration of winter solstice? Oh... and Christ was a spring ;summer baby"
*insert angry red face here *
Being a Christian who has cracked both the bible....and a history book... very difficult.

I'm just .. logical. I fully believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Guy seemed to know his shit...even my atheist husband can't argue with anything he stood for. I will even as far as to believe he died and rose again. Miracles happen everyday with or without the Son of God visibly present on earth. I wasn't there. Plausibility and probability are not the same thing.
I however do not believe the earth was formed in EXACTLY seven days. I do not think God and science are mutually exclusive. I personally think the bible was written to dumb down even further oral explanation of events that were beyond human comprehension. (For instance a flood only one family and a bunch of animals survived) Think of how big the world is. No possible way Noah could have known if he and his progeny were the only people left. Miraculous God send they survived? Absolutely. A complete humanity do over? Not logical.
Sodom and Gamora? A self righteous bigoted and likely racist explanation of another catastrophic event. Likely a volcanic eruption or earthquake.
Now. I'm not saying whether or not God was directly involved because ... truly. How the fuck would ANYONE know? But logic dictates he took as much interest then as he does now. He steps in when he's needed or sends an envoy but truthfully... he believes in love & logic. You get right and are good to people you see Him on the other side. You don't... well. Youre life here likely sucks and no promises on the afterlife either.
I get looked at like I have three heads.

I have the Internet. I get all the memes and I understand the history. I just don't get that real people in real life act this way
