I have no doubt, I will be talking to myself in this thread
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. This book actually changed my life. Literally. And I know that sounds cheesy, & I accept that. But it really, truly did. And as some other dude wrote 'it sparked a love for the genre and consumed me in such a lovely way'. I don't know how else to put it. AND this is his debut novel!!! If you are a fan of Game of Thrones, here is the review from George R. R. Martin - 'I gulped it down in a day, staying up almost to dawn reading, and I am already itching for the next one. He's bloody good, this Rothfuss guy'. I wanted to copy & past a synopsis, but for some reason I cannot c&p on this site
The 2nd book - Wise Man's Fear is just as good, dangit. The much anticipated 3rd book people have been waiting forever to find out its release date.
After reading NOTW and WMF - I searched endlessly for something similar to fill the gaping hole of waiting for the 3rd book. I started with the Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb last summer and have not been able to put these books down since then. I am on the 15th (which was just released). Not the typical stuff I usually read, but ever since NOTW, I am apparently addicted to this genre.
I have so many more.

I've read the assassin's apprentice series, or at least the first few, I don't remember how far I got. I'm on the hunt for a new series right now, I've started a few but couldn't get into them. I'm in the mood for funny sci-fi/fantasy. I read all the disc world books and highly reccommend them if you like intelligent low brow humour(I know that's a contridiction, but that's what it is)I want something in the same vein now. I'm thinking of rereading the myth adventures series, I haven't read those in a long time.

Speaking of funny sci-fi, I need to re-read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books.

The millennium series, starting with the girl with the dragon tattoo. I am in love with lisbeth salandar, on of the main characters.
Loved the game of thrones series so Noodz I will be checking out your first suggestion!
Right now I am working my way through Dr. Covey's 7 habits of highly effective people (actually kind of okay for a self-help type book)
And next on my list is going to be the girl on the train I think.

I'm way behind in books. I just finished The Other Boelyn Girl and loved it. Most of my reading is free books from Amazon for my kindle.

Her Wideacre trilogy is sinfully delicious. She is a FANTASTIC author. I am obsessed with King Henry the 8th, and I love the Tudor series.

Best series ever: Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. They're mystery, humor, sci-fi, fantasy. They're amazing. I also have read Jasper Fforde's Thursday next books a few times. They're just so bizarre and somehow sane at the same time. They also got me interested in classic literature again.
